ASKU Gallery is a awesome neighborhood art gallery and studio located in Westminster Colorado. We opened our doors in 2005 as strickly a art gallery and have expanded to a fully functioning art studio. Classes now available see the Classes tab for more details.

I started in pottery about 8 years ago when my wife signed me up for a class at the Westminster recreation center. At first I’ll admit that I would rather be playing golf than playing with mud. After a couple of classes I was hooked, I quickly bought my own wheel and spent most of my spare time perfecting my skills. Hence, I am primarily a self-taught potter. Since that day I have read books and magazines, visited museums, and attend workshops to learn new forms, techniques, and methods of working with clay.

My main focus has been with wheel-thrown forms, because I enjoy the fluidity and symmetry of the thrown form. My primary firing technique is Raku.

My main influences have been from Japanese, Chinese, Native American and Celtic art. I am drawn to the geometric patterns that are present in much of this type of art and use it in designing my own pieces. Even today I still love to experiment I find new glazes and different ways to unlock the beauty of RAKU.

Jill Atchison - Artist / Owner

Being a native of Colorado, I have been surrounded by nature my entire life. I have been an artist the whole time in one way or another. Nature is my inspiration, Mother Nature is the master. I love to find new ways to express nature in different mediums. When we became certified scuba divers, my art took on a nautical theme, being land locked in Denver I get my ocean fix through my art in recreating the beauty from the water.

My new direction is educating people on the method and mediums of Art, so everyone can make this earth a beautiful place of self-expression. It started with my Husband, when I dragged him off the golf course for this first pottery class.
